Massive recovery efforts were underway by a variety of governmental agencies that included the 3rd U.S. Army Infantry (the Old Guard) from Fort Myer, Va., the Military District of Washington Engineer Company, based on Fort Belvoir, Va., and the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command, also based on Fort Belvoir.
